2. Eligibility and Use of the Site

The Site and our Services are intended for use by individuals 18 years of age or older, or by a parent, guardian, family member, or caregiver acting on behalf of an older adult they are authorized to represent. Our Services and Site are not directed to children under 13, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information when applying for rides, volunteering, donating, or contacting us;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Site or its security features;

3. Our Programs and Services

Ride Program (VIP) and Companion Services

CARS coordinates volunteer drivers to provide accompanied transportation to older adults (“VIPs”) for appointments, errands, and community engagement. Ride requests are subject to volunteer availability and are not guaranteed. CARS reserves the right to decline, modify, reschedule, or discontinue service to any individual at our discretion, including where we determine a request falls outside the scope of services we can safely provide.

Volunteer Participation

Individuals who wish to volunteer as drivers or in other capacities must complete any required application, screening, background check, and training processes. Volunteers are not employees or agents of CARS for purposes of employment law, and participation is at all times voluntary and subject to the policies CARS provides during onboarding.

Library Home Delivery

CARS coordinates with partner libraries to deliver library materials to program participants. Participants are responsible for the timely return of borrowed materials in accordance with the applicable library’s own policies, and CARS is not responsible for late fees, lost items, or disputes between a participant and a library.

Donations and Events

Donations, event registrations, and ticket purchases made through the Site are processed via our third-party giving platform. By making a donation or purchasing a ticket, you agree to the terms of that platform in addition to these Terms. Donations are generally non-refundable except as required by law or as CARS may determine in its sole discretion. Tax receipts, where applicable, will be issued in accordance with IRS requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations.

4. No Guarantee of Services; Assumption of Risk

CARS strives to provide safe, reliable, and compassionate service, but transportation and in-person assistance inherently carry some risk. By requesting or participating in a ride, delivery, or other in-person service, you acknowledge and accept the ordinary risks associated with transportation and personal assistance activities. CARS does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or risk-free service and is not a substitute for emergency medical transportation. In the event of a medical emergency, call 911.

5. User Content and Submissions

If you submit information, messages, testimonials, or other content to us through the contact form, newsletter sign-up, donation forms, or otherwise, you represent that you have the right to share that information and that it is accurate. You grant CARS a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display any testimonials or non-confidential submissions you voluntarily provide for our nonprofit and promotional purposes, unless you tell us otherwise in writing.

6. Intellectual Property

All content on the Site — including text, graphics, logos, images, and the overall design — is owned by or licensed to CARS and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may view and share content from the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes, but you may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from our content for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The Site may link to or embed content from third-party services, including Facebook, Instagram, GuideStar/Candid, GreatNonprofits, and our donor management, payment, and email platforms. These third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies. CARS does not control and is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site or service.

8. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. CARS DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY SERVICE REQUEST WILL BE FULFILLED.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CARS, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR SERVICES, EVEN IF CARS HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS IS INTENDED TO LIMIT LIABILITY FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE, WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, OR ANY LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CARS and its directors, officers, staff, and volunteers from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, misuse of the Site or Services, or violation of any rights of a third party.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Site and Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and share personal information from VIPs, volunteers, donors, and Site visitors.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the updated Terms on this page. Your continued use of the Site or Services after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Legacy & Planned Gifts

Legacy and planned gifts are a beautiful way to celebrate significant life events by caring for others for many years to come.

Legacy giving can provide potential tax advantages, allowing you to strategically plan your financial legacy while minimizing estate taxes and maximizing the impact of your charitable contributions.

If you are interested in setting up a legacy gift or planned gift to CARS, we suggested consulting with your financial advisor before contacting our office for more information.

If you would like to set up this type of donation, please reach out to janet@communityassistedrides.org or call 708-354-9328 and ask for the executive director.

Honor/Memorial

Making a gift in honor of mom, dad, grandma or another special older adult pays tribute to your loved one and cares for others in their honor. Please consider making a donation to CARS in honor of mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, or another special person in your life.

Making a gift in their honor and/or memory is a beautiful way to celebrate the people you treasure while caring for others for many years to come. If you donate in honor of one of our current clients or volunteers, we will happily mail them a notecard letting them know a donation was made in their honor!
