I have learned so much from my incredible experience at Community Assisted Rides. Learning how a non-profit organization is run, and getting to work on different projects has given me wonderful insight into non-profit work. I enjoyed the opportunity to interview volunteers and clients and learn about their experiences with CARS. Getting to meet clients in person and hear about their lives let me see how the work that CARS does helps so many people in the community. Additionally, I met so many wonderful volunteers that were working at CARS and I got to see how many people want to give back to their community.
I also got the opportunity to attend a La Grange Business Association Meeting, and I was able to meet so many wonderful people that run businesses and non-profits in La Grange. I learned so much about how all of these organizations support each other, and work with each other. I am hoping to work with even more non-profits and environmental non-profits in the future, and I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to intern at CARS and learn so much about non-profit work.
I learned so much about the amount of work it takes to run a successful non-profit, with so many wonderful volunteers like CARS have. Additionally, CARS does so much more than just provide rides to members of the community-they call and check in with clients, provide flowers around their birthday, deliver library books, and are an amazing resource for clients who have questions surrounding so many health topics.
All of these events take a lot of work from so many people to organize, drive, and deliver. CARS began as Interfaith Community Partners – a series of churches that wanted to provide rides to members of the community – and has grown so much.
